Windows 10 End of Life: Keeping Your Computers Secure

January 13th, 2025

We want to let you know about a significant event happening in a year so that you have notice for it and can budget, and we can get it done in time.  While it is happening in a year, there are risks to waiting, and it may be a good idea for you to act now or soon.

Due to Windows changes coming in Oct 25, we recommend upgrading your Windows 10 PCs to Windows 11 or replacing older PCs that cannot run Windows 11.

What is Microsoft doing, and why should I care?

Microsoft is ceasing support for Windows 10 in Oct 25, so Windows 10 machines will no longer get security updates, which means they will be at increased risk of being hacked.  In turn, this means increased risk for you, and if you have people's personal data, you will not be acting prudently under the Privacy Act 2020 if you have not prepared for this event.  If you have GTB's Sure IT Remote or Full managed services, your computers will not be covered.  Likewise, if you have cyber insurance, your coverage will likely be invalidated if you have not upgraded.

Microsoft has ceased support for earlier versions of Windows, but what is different this time is that they have set a hardware limitation so that older computers cannot run Windows 11.  So, in parallel with software upgrades, many people will also be getting new hardware.  This and other factors may lead to hardware shortages and/or price increases later next year.

Please note that we have already contacted all of our managed service (SureIT) clients.

Please contact us at [email protected] if you would like assistance with the Windows upgrade.
